How to Create a Hardware & Software Inventory for a Network

Difficulty: Moderate

InstructionsThings You'll Need:
Filemaker Pro 7 or later

Step 1Launch the Filemaker Pro application on your computer by using the "Start" menu on a PC or the Dock icon on a Mac.

Step 2Select the "Create a new file using a template" option on the Filemaker Pro welcome screen.

Step 3Choose "Business" and select "People & Assets" from the drop-down list of categories, and then highlight the "Inventory.fp7" template.

Step 4Click "OK" to create a new inventory database, and then navigate to the area of your hard drive where you want to store the file and click "Save." A copy of the inventory template with no records in it will now open.

Step 5Hit the "New" button at the top of the database window to create a new record in your inventory. You will be able to enter various information about the hardware or software you are inventorying, including the model, category and serial number.

Step 6Use the "Delete" button at the top of the database window to erase any record from the inventory that you no longer want to keep.

Step 7Search for records in your inventory by clicking on the "Find" button and entering your search criteria.
