Things You'll Need:
Web Site
Keyword Tools
Step 1
Avoid Flash & JavaScript. While you may find that fast-paced and colorful flash intro to your website appealing, most others, including the search engine spiders, do not. While the search engines are developing ways to read flash and JavaScript, it is wise to avoid them as the spiders will usually completely skip a website that contains these.
Step 2
Find Relevant Keywords. When search engines crawl through a website, they are trying to find the most relevant websites for their viewers. One of the things they look for keywords that people use when making a search. To be more search engine friendly, it is important to use key terms that others are searching for. To find out what people are searching for in relation to your web site, Google offers some great keyword programs, such as the AdWords keyword tool, which are free for use.
Step 3
Have a Great Title. Title tags are the first thing search engine spiders see when they come to your site. Your Title tag is what you see in the upper left of your screen when you come to a website and also the bolded blue in the Google Serps. Your title tag should contain you’re your main key term and should be no more than twelve words, though shorter if possible and avoid any stop words, such as and, or and because which are ignored by the spiders. For a list of stop words, visit www.webconfs.com/stop-words.php.
Step 4
Have a great description. Your description is the rest of the information you see under the title in the Serps and is part of the HTML meta tags in the background of your website. Make your description relevant, pointed and use important key terms without stuffing. Your description tag should be no more than 240 characters.
Step 5
Use H1 tags. H1 tags are used to make the words stand out on your website and are seen by search engine spiders as containing important information. You should use only one H1 tag on a page, with all other tags being H2, H3 and so on. Make sure to important key terms in your H1 tags or they will not be helpful to the search engines.
Step 6
Create compelling, relevant content. If there is one main concept to utilize when trying to make your web site search engine friendly, it is to write great content. Write content for your human readers and not for the search engines. Make sure that the content is relevant to your website and avoid keyword stuffing. To avoid keyword stuffing, try to keep your keyword density, or the percentage of key words to the total number of words on the page, including your meta tags, alt tags and content, between 2% an 5%. This can usually be accomplished by writing naturally with the reader in mind.
